My Weaver T22 arrives today (says the post office). It is a pair of aluminum weaver rails with steel pinch-ers on either side (you can adjust windage). I am mounting it on the 24S-D with 3/8" grooves. I won't be able to test the 20 gauge for a week or two, but if it works...Yay!

Aaaggghhhh! I opened the box from Amazon and sat down with the 24S-D to see if they would be a good fit. I don't know how I missed this, but the groove on the stamped side is very shallow and the opposite groove is deep. No wonder the Savage Model 24 O/U Shotgun Scope Optic Mounts Perfect Adapter™ by Gun-Guides® popped off. I am sending the Weaver T22s back to Amazon unopened. Anyone want a perfectly good set of Savage Model 24 O/U Shotgun Scope Optic Mounts Perfect Adapter™ by Gun-Guides®? I will let them go for $20.

A good smith can deepen that groove for you.
A friend if mine had a early 22/410 that did not have grooves, grooved. Came out perfect.

I just had the dovetail repaired and the barrels re-blued. I guess I will let the next guy re-groove. It's a bunny, squirrel, and rabbit gun. I will put my Lyman peep sight (got it on eBay last year) on it and sight it in.

What is an M53D? All I see is a submersible sump pump.

Whoops, you mean Lyman 53D. I have one. I bought the missing apertures from Midway and got the screws from Laib's Gunsmithing. The one on eBay is complete except for screws. Good luck with finding those. There is a 53C with screws for $49. Looks (to me) identical, but the 24 isn't on the label.

I put my 24V-D back together after refinishing the stocks. I used General Finishes Arm-R-Seal oil and urethane topcoat (Semi-Gloss) from Rockler Woodworking over boiled linseed oil. The fore and buttstocks match better than in the photos. I took the pics out in the sun.

So far on this used $350 gun. 1)Had choke tubes installed. 2)Had rear dovetail repaired. 3)Had left side dovetail groove repaired. 4)Had Firesights installed (had to have new hole drilled for front) after trying OEM and a Redfield. 5)Made extractors work. 6)Fixed breakout in buttstock where rear swivel was "installed". 7)Refinished stocks with wipe on polyurethane. 7)Installed Pachmayr RP20 recoil pad. 8)Of course I had to totally disassemble and clean the receiver and polish the bores. 9)Bought a Lyman 53D peep sight (eBay) and apertures (Midway). A lot of work for a bunny/squirrel/grouse gun. #2 and #3 were bad from the factory. #5, #6 and #8 were bad maintenance by previous owner(s). In hindsight, I could have bought a Chiappa Double Badger, but I like this gun too much.
