I'm finding that parts for these guns are pretty cheap. Why not just order a replacement and modify that. Set the original aside as a spare in case it doesn't work out. That's what I meant , going to order the parts this week. I have a CDL physical to pay for first, unfortunately. Are you ordering parts from Popperts?

Scott,
In reference to the discussion here and in the other thread with bigkelly, there is a 3rd barrel set variety. Now that you've discovered you have a 24V, and not a 24V-A, 24V Series B, 24V Series C, or 24V Series D, you need to determine if it is a 24V Type 1 or Type 2. The first produced 24V (the Type 1) is unusual in that it had a ramped style front sight and a barrel band that was cut across the top to accomodate the sight. The second 24V produced (the Type 2) has the complete barrel band with the front sight integrated into it. If your rifle barrel has a drilled and tapped hole on the top which is where the ramped front sight would sit, then it's a Type 1. If no hole exists, then it's a Type 2.
Good luck with the project!

Now I wish I'd looked at that this morning before I left the house (I looked carefully at the reciever/breech block because that's where my attention is focused at the moment). I'm going from memory here, but I THINK I remember a shallow, blind tapped hole in the top of the 222 barrel, and a corresponding small divot in the bottom of the 20 ga barrel. I'll double check but that sounds like a type I.
Thanks for the detailed help with the ID!

Well, I might as well turn this into a build thread. Other than waiting for the turn around on the new extractor, I've got just about everything needed to build this thing up... Here's my running total for parts: 1) Partially stripped 24V in desperate need of help: Trade @ roughly $40 value 2) Numrich orders for various small parts: Roughly $30-40 3) New forend assembly: $65 4) New barrel clamp: on loan from another member until I make one to my own specs after the modifications are done 5) New buttpad: Free from my own parts bin 6) sweat on choke adapter: $5 (ebay) 7) Set of 4 chokes: $15 (ebay) 8) New folding rear sight: Free from my own parts bin 9) New cast trigger guard and screws: $10 (ebay) 10) New firing pin: $12 (gunbroker) 11) New firing pin springs: Free (I had a pen with a heavy stainless steel spring ) 12) Sling adapter: $8 (ebay) 13) Sling- Homemade from paracord: $20 including cord and the AJ Freeland sling clamp so I can adjust the length and use it for shooting as well as carrying I still need to buy stain and sealer, and materials to refinish the metal parts. I expect that to run about another $75 all said and done if I go the expensive route. We'll see how I feel when all the machining is done. I'll be sure to post progress pics as I go once I get to the actual work.
