Update... Three days before the 2016 Election. I'm still looking for a Savage 24V-D in .22 Hornet/20 gauge! I have a 24F Predator in 22 Hornet/20 gauge with blued, not matte black steel and synthetic stocks I'd sell. What is the difference between the 24f and the 24v? What is the Predator model? Mine is just plain wood. What did I miss?

The 24F Predator was the last of the 24 line. Wood stocks were replaced with synthetic. The first F's were blued the later ones were matte.

Do you handload? You load .22 Hornet down to almost 22 lr speeds (and use .35 gr. bullets)

I do allot of Coyote hunting and have kept my eyes open for A model with a 22 CF over a shotgun barrel. 12 would be preferred but 20 can be utilized.
I have a couple Hornets and single 222 in a Contender and a couple 223/556 rifles. But having them TOGETHER would be ideal! I remember those 24F's when they where new, I sold more then a few working in gun shops! Never wanted one then!
I have passed on a couple 222/20's because of condition/Price. Most folks here think they are GOLD and frankly being 60-75 miles from the factory, they are plentiful. I have never seen a 22H/20ga but I have seen two 357/20ga and about all others EXCEPT anything over a 12g. Seems folks hold on to these!

CW The 22 Hornet over 20 seems to be a pretty rare bird to me in a 24V, despite others saying other calibers like 357 Max are harder to find. I have 24V's(multiple) in 222 over 20, 223 over 20, 357 Mag over 20(1), 357 Max over 20(1) and 30-30 over 20, yet the 22 Hornet has eluded me, it's the only 24V combo I don't have.
The 24V was only made for a very short period of time in 12 Gauge right before they went into Chapter 11 around 1988. Other than that short time period, all the 24V centerfires were over a 20 gauge barrel. I know they made the 24V in 30-30 over 12 because I have one with screw in chokes from the factory, I do not know if they made it in a 22 centerfire over 12 before they went into Chapter 11.
After they reorganized, the 24F came out with the Tupperware furniture, and you can get a 22 centerfire over 12 gauge. But I don't like the 24F at all, it seems to bulky and to heavy to me compared to the 24V, just my personal opinion.
Personally, I think that a 24V in 223 over 20 gauge utilizing a 40 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip in a handload, along with #3 buck in the 20 gauge barrel is about as good as it gets when it comes to a fur gun. Again, just my personal opinion.

Ditto on the .223/20. I have one and usually hunt squirrel and other small game with a loaded down .223 though I wouldn't hesitate to take a Pa. white tail with it.

Lots of people killing deer with the 223 where it's legal, but you have to go to a bullet a little heavier and more stout than a varmint bullet. And therein lies the problem for a Savage 24 with it's slow 1 in 14 inch twist. One heavier bullet that will stabilize and not tumble in a 1 in 14 twist and kill deer is the Sierra 63 grain SMP.

I have to agree with the statement about the 24F weight, it is at least a pound heavier than the older 24Vs. But I really wanted it in 12 gauge, and that was the game in town. Finding a vintage 2400 in .308 Winchester wasn't in my budget. So my choices were .223 Remington or 30-30 Winchester. I wanted a big game rifle, so the 30-30 was the choice. Glad I made it. My rurals are flat lands, so carrying it isn't nearly as hard as it would be in the hills / mountains. A red dot sight on top and its good to go !

Looks like you're advertising the gun for $750, including 350 rounds of .22 Hornet ammo. Being that the ammo runs between 75 cents and a buck a round. If you'd consider keeping all of the ammo and selling the gun for $250 less, I'll take it. Chuck Williams Murfreesboro, Tennessee 615-895-5502 Home
