hello all, i have a savage model 24 p series 22 over 410. both shoot fine but i do have a few issues with the gun. 1) the .22 extractor is very stiff and i almost need pliers at times to pull the 22 shell out. i don't know if its the spring thats worn out or not-figure it is and have ordered new one. so dumb question-how do you install the extractor properly? I'm assuming put new spring in/put extractor all the way in flush with end of barrel/tighten extractor screw. if this is wrong please set me straight. 2) the gun has a folding rear sight on top of the .22 barrel. it seems to be up as high as it goes but the rifle still shoots low. any remedies besides "kentucky elevation" to get the gun to shoot a bit better with the sight? thanks for any/all help with this rifle.

I don't have any experience with the extractor problem. The shooting low can be fixed by lowering the front sight, ie. file it.

I'm not sure how to change the extracter but mine was doing the same thing when I bought it and it was just dirty in there. I just sprayed a couple drops of G 96 in there and it loosened right up.

thanks for the replies guys! i didn't know filing a sight was a thing i could do. i figure the next time i take it shooting i will work on the sight. also i soaked the extractor in some clp and cleaned the hole where the spring goes. i installed the new spring so i will find out if it still an issue. so with filing the front sight down.....is there anything special i need to do to it after i file it? cold blue or something like that to protect the metal? thanks again for the info.

Yup cold blue is the way to go. You can also use Rustoleum rust converter metal conditioner, I can't remember exactly what it is called right now. I used it on a mildly rusted barrel it came out a very tough black color.
