Question about ID of early 24C (?)

I'm new here, and have a Savage 24 that isn't exactly fitting the odell23 ID system.

I'm 41, and have had this gun since my grandpa gave it to me when I was 12.  It was a great rabbit/squirrel/dove gun through my early teens, and then got stored away, not to resurface until recently, when the oldest of my own 3 boys has gotten old enough to want to find his own rabbits/squirrels/doves.  I remembered this gun and dug it out today.  Grandpa was a Marine aviator in WWII, so it's possible--even likely--that this gun is rather early.

I looked at the markings today and Google led me to Savage24.com, where I found odell23's ID tree.

• This gun says "Model 24" on the right side of the frame.
• It has a 24" barrel.
  
• The barrels are brazed together the entire length (no gap).
  
• No lever on the right to open breech (breech lever on the top).
  
• No engraved game scene on the frame.
• No tenite stock (walnut?).
• 7B concludes that this is an early Savage 24 Model, and says they are model A, B, E, or H.
• But my engraving on the left in the circle says "4C"--is this then a Model C? Or am I misunderstanding the model/stamp system?

Ultimately, I'm just wanting to understand what I have, clean it up for my sons, and be able to knowledgeably made any necessary repairs, now that I'm smarter than I was the last time I touched this gun (so many memories!).
