Cool, but I cringed every time he dragged that $15,000 drilling across the tabletop. D:

Years ago I bought a four-barrel drilling (vierling) (16x16; 22 Hornet; 8x57R) in a Munich gunshop for a decent price and was able to bring it home. Even with 2 shotgun barrels and two rifle barrels it was surprisingly easy to handle and not as heavy/clunky as one would think. And the craftsmanship that goes into the making of one is truly astounding.
But they just don't make sense for American hunting....I guess I could combine an elk hunt with a pheasant hunt with a prairie dog hunt but it's just more fun to do those hunts with critter-specific firearms. I sold my drilling for at an indecent profit and as much fun as it was to own....for a while....it's one of those few guns that I really don't regret selling.

I think the Drilling really appeals to the "backwoods minimalist" type, like me. If I could swing it, I'd sell all my guns for a 30-30/20ga/22WMR drilling and just have one gun. I actually did the math on this once, to see if I could scrape up enough cash to have one built, but I wasn't even close. A vierling would be even better, as I could have another 20ga barrel.

You 'backwoods minimalist' guys would have loved this Munich gunshop. The vierling I bought was one of about 20+ some drillings, etc. in the shop (this would be the mid-80s). I recall one with 5 barrels: 2 16-gauge (by far the most common shotgun gauge), 22 LR, 22 Hornet & 9.3x74R (the ultimate elk caliber). I recall seeing a couple with 9mm Parabellum barrels, several with .222 Rem R and other oddities. Many had absolutely gorgeously-figured Damascus barrels.
Apparently, the calibers were limited only by the gunsmith's imagination. Although most were rimmed cartridges, some were not, including several 30-06 and a couple of .308. The clerk told me that many of the guns had originally been built in the late 19th/early 20th century, then 'remodeled' later in the '50s & 60s.
Now....if I could just go back in time and buy a few more....

Wow, that seems like a really good price for a drilling and really overpriced for an M6. Huh!

I like the .223/20ga.for its versatility, I can shoot low power hand loaded .223's plus the usual. However your idea of selling all your guns for a single rifle might not be such a great idea. What if the receiver breaks? Any number of things could happen to take your gun out of commission. The thought of being without a firearm is to horrible to consider for long.

Geeze, give me a break. My first house didn't cost that much. If I wanted or needed to spend that much on a toy it would be a new boat, snow machine, camper or ATV. I already have rifles and shotguns that will do anything these fabulously priced drillings will do. My 24V alone would take care of much of it. If I had a gun worth eight grand, my wife'd kill me if I took it out in the bush. They may be a prestige item for a few, but not practical for the rest of us lowly folks. Pretty, but not my cup of tea.
