I have a 410/410 and really haven't seen too many others. Is this a bit of an oddball model?

There were 2 different models that I'm aware of. The first one was a model 240, somewhere back in the fifties?, Bakelite stock, and twin hammers I believe, but I know nothing about them. Second model was the 242, single hammer, deluxe walnut furniture, 10 inch beavertail forend, only produced 1977-78, and maybe 1979. Cool little guns, but by the late 70's, .410's weren't really in vogue, so I don't think they sold to many of them and they were dropped by 1980. Pair of Savage 242's:

Very cool guns - thanks for the pictures of them. 410s make great woods roaming guns if you aren't especially interested in hunting, just hiking and want a firearm along for 'just in case'.

Is yours a single-hammer with wood stock or a skinny double-hammer with two triggers and Tenite stock? The Model 240, with double skinny hammers and triggers in Tenite, was made about 1940 to 1948. They disappeared from Stevens listings a couple of years before Savage started putting its name on the 24 series. They originally sold for a little over $15, the same as the Tenite .22-.410. I have ads listing both guns together, your choice for that price. Today, the Tenite 240s seem to be worth about $300 more than the Tenite .22-.410s in similar condition -- in the $700+ range at last fall's Tulsa show. They are scarce, as are the 242s with wood stock; the 242 in good condition also brings a premium price, not too far behind the 240.

I saw a 242 go for $275 at auction this weekend. (Figure $375 when the premiums, taxes and fees were paid). I was tempted to bid, more to offer it to someone here as I'd never use it. But it wasn't possible with my financial situation what it is, so I kept my hand down and cried a little inside.
