Well I finally attempted to to spread the middle of my barrels apart in order to draw my POIs closer together. I took an existing junk tool, and sanded it smooth along the edges as to not scratch the gun. Inserted it between bbls, and forced it back, toward the receiver. It was a very tight fit. I did this 3-4 times, shooting between 'stretches'. I even went as far as to tap it down with a small hammer.
This seemed to work like a charm. My shots from the two bbls came 6" closer together than they were before. I was using slugs that day so I could more readily see if the work was actually making progress. And although the slugs were still hitting quite low, it was, in fact , better than before.
So then I used some of my usual shot loads I use in the field. WAMMO! They were dead on! So even though the slugs were shooting low, the shot loads were patterning awesome. Could not have asked for more. This is not a slug gun anyhow.
The circled hole in this next pic is 22lr.
This next pic is after I messed w/ the barrel band screw:
But out of curiousity, I wanted to try some different slugs. As you can see in the picture, switching from Federal 3/4oz slugs (the ones I was testing with) to Winchester 5/8oz slugs got me another 6" closer to POA. These results were consistent. All to the same POA. Not sure if it has more to do with the namebrand, or the projectile weight difference. Both are rifled, hollow point slugs.
Then I went to tinkering again. For no good reason. I tightened down my barrel band screw a tad. Just because I could. Lo and behold, on my next trip to the range, the bbls had creeped farther apart again. I don't know if the 'stretch' simply 'unstretched', or if (most likely) my messing with the bbl band screw could have thrown off my POI.
So... more tinkering & testing to be done. Any thoughts? Especially curious about possible shift in POI resulting from messing with the barrel band screw.
