I just went through this myself. I ended up putting a dovetail to Weaver mount which I had to do some filing on to make it fit around the contour of the barrel so it sat down further and bit into the dovetail. I then used Weaver quad lock rings and topped it with a Burris 2.5-20 fullfield scope. I have shot 125-150 20 ga shells from birdshot to buckshot to slugs through it and so far nothing has moved at all. I also ordered a leather cheek riser from ITC marksmanship because with this mount the scope sits quite high and I was having a hard time getting proper cheek weld and it was very uncomfortable to shoot but the cheek pad has made it perfect. I did see a mount called savage24 perfect adapter which looks like a way better mount than mine on Amazon.com but I couldn't get it up here in Canada.

If you elect to go with a red dot sight instead, I can recommend the Bushnell TRS 25 sight with no hesitation. Very awesome combination gun, now much more sure of accurate sighting.

Does your 22/20gage have a groove on it or is it drilled and tapped? How you get a scope on it will depend on that because that will determine what bases and rings you need. Your question is very similar to asking if your blue Ford has disc brakes. We need MORE INFORMATION to answer the question. A photo would help. We are good, but we AIN'T MIND READERs around here.

I tried to register here as Ragnar which is the name I have been using as a guest. The forum dialog box said I had completed the registration process and I would be getting an e-mail to verify my address. I NEVER GOT any e mail. Now the forum sez that my name Ragnar, has been taken. It AIN'T taken and I can't log on using it, nor can I start a post as a guest. Who is in charge of running this place? If Ragnar is indeed a member here, please send me the e-mail thingie so I can log in because I am the real Ragnar.

Don't know if this will work, but here are two photos (maybe) of different bases and rings used to attach scopes to standard 3/8 inch grooved receivers. If your Savage 24 has a grooved receiver like the top photo, either of these will work. I prefer the bottom rings because they are all blued steel. These are Weaver's. Yeah, I know the bottom gun ain't a Savage, but you can get the drift about how to mount a scope on a grooved receiver. Or not. If your receiver is drilled and tapped, then screw on Weaver bases and use any of a number of different rings to attach to the base. If you are going that route, just keep it all Weaver and get their rings too. They are ugly, but they are cheap and they are strong.

I use mine for turkey hunting, coyotes, sometimes squirrels, and pert near anything else. Notice that with the grooved receivers, you can mount the scope low and not have the problem colonel 3006 had by the time he got the base and rings on his gun. All the best to you. Let us know how it works out.

I had thought of just putting on just a really good set of dovetail rings that would hold Instead of the base, but my problem is I have sausage thumbs and I couldn't fit my thumb under the scope for selector without breaking the gun open. I didn't want to have to do that if I had to switch barrels fast.

Good morning Colonel, SIR!! Take a look here -->> www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/trigger-group-parts/hammer-parts/hammer-extensions/hammer-extensions-prod9036.aspxA hammer extension solves the common problem you speak of. Somewhere around here I thought I saw a list of what extension numbers fit what hammer, but I don't see it now. Or maybe I saw that on another forum. I printed it off and put it in my notebook where I keep that kind of information so if it becomes important to you, I can look it up. But Brownell's has good technicians and if you tell them the model you have, they can probably send you the right hammer extension. Let us know how that works out. What happened to the original poster on this thread? Did the cows eat him?

Cocking the hammer itself is no big deal, I can get my thumb on it. It'smy selecter to choose between the rifle and shotgun that's a little tricky. Thanks for the info though from bBrownells but being in Canada it's sometimes a little tricky getting anything shipped from the states. I can get a hammer extension up here but as I said I can my big sausage thumb on it pretty easily

I keep forgetting that you are a foreigner. <grin> But now I understand your dilemma and I too have it happen on occasion and have had to resort to using BOTH thumbs to get it done. Dam inconvenient too when that happens while your target is running away.
Colonel, here is opportunity knocking on your door. You need to invent a SELECTOR extension for those guns. You cud have tha hammer extension thingie on one side and tha selector thingie on tha other side. Yew cud probably cell about three of them thangs and make ah buncha money. Or not. <grin>
Anybody seen CAS lately? Has his parole officer caught him again and sent him back to the big house? CAS how come I can't register here? Why am I being picked on? I am good looking, well better looking that the Colonel anyway and I would make a good addition to the forum. I am out on work release now, so I can get on the forum almost any time instead of being on a limited schedule like I was when I was locked up. The warden will vouch for me. Well he said he would anyway, but you know how they lie.

This is a test to see if I am off probation. I hope so because I don't know how many more of these polar bears I can make love to.
