I have 222/20 ga . Firing pin is hitting my rem reloads off center .. Out of 10 reloads 2 did not fire... Turned bullet and shot again they fired .. 2 showing pin marks . These are not light pin marks hit is solid but off center ... Took pin out lost spring down in lower area cannot get out or see it . Not tearing it apart so found spring from Numerich .. $8 dollars with shipping ... Pin did not look bent ... No build up etc .. I am neck sizing only to try to raise shell up pin hits top right area of primer ...
Any ideas what is causing it and solution if available ? Being I hunt no need for this to happen then ! Thanks

Being I lost rifle firing pin spring took look at firing pin.. I noticed that from inside out it seems to be slanted up.. So I took it out and put it in from inside receiver ... Oh my it tilts not straight in hole .. If course it tilts down from this angle .. Put it in from hammer side normal it tilts up ....
Now for experts here I figure hole is not drilled straight or level ... Pin does not look bent on anyway ...Could firing pin bent but I cannot see it? I have friends 22 hornet and I took and looked at fired shells and guess what ?Primers are being hit off center and high also not as bad as my 222 ? Looked in pin hole with bright light and it is drilled a angle not straight .... Also because of angle firing pin is being hit on top edge and halfway down on wear marks on face .... Anyone run into this?

I noticed the shotgun firing pin is drilled straight ... Both 24f and 24v rifle firing pin hole is at angle .... Must be reason for that but both hit primer high ? Some say use federal primers as they have thin cup ? I use Cci 400...

Got new rifle firing spring that I figure I would lose .🙈 It was $8 bucks with shipping ... Did not feel like tearing it apart to find spring ... I did trigger Job and it's great on 24v... On 24f it helped but still heavy pull and Gun is not mine so I stopped ... If it was mine I would have gone farther on sear. .. It's better no creep but still heavy for my likes. . On firing pin I believe it could be bent just little and make it hit primer better. If I screwed up you can get firing pins for model 24.... I do notice that contact of hammer hitting the pin because of angles is causing half pin to wear near top of pin not whole face of pin .. That is do to angle of pin ..

I'm need to work on the trigger and sear on the 22mag/20ga. It fires both without the problems you are having but the trigger has a lot of creep and is quite rough. Guess it's time to break it down and get the stones out again.

My trigger after stone on 24v is very good.... Out today and almost all shells did not go off like 6 out of 9 ... Firing pin is not hitting close to middle I can turn the bullet and it takes 3 tries before it goes off ... Still do not have idea how to correct it ... As if now this gun is not going hunting ....

Searched other forums and found only 1 person with off center strikes on 24v rifle primer pin. He said new firing pin corrected it ...
So ordered one it was $15 with free shipping ... Its original one not reproduction ... See what this does .....

Is the firing pin hole it the receiver enlarged from years of use? Does it move up and down in the pin hole and change the angle it strikes the primer?

Is the firing pin hole it the receiver enlarged from years of use? Does it move up and down in the pin hole and change the angle it strikes the primer? No on hole ...I only had 6 shots out of it from 1960s... This is first time I reloaded for it also using neck sizing .. Using rem shells and cci primers . I tried ww shells last night hit same spot ... Noticed the firing pin hole is not drilled straight it's at angle .. I put pin in from breech side and it's not straight has angle to pin hole .. New pin is on way to check .. Going to fire a wW factory shell this week to see where it hits ... I read almost every forum only could find 1 guy who had the 24v and had same problem .. He said new pin and it stopped .. I did notice hammer is hitting top edge of pin down about halfway ... Could this tilt pin? Also going to smoke a primer in shell and try to push on pin to see where it hits ?

Smoked primer and pushed firing pin with pencil hitting same spot down near edge of primer .. So that takes out hammer causing it .... Getting new firing pin will rule out if it's bent pin ? I was going to bend pin but figured wait for new one to come ...

Well I feel I found it .... By neck sizing this causes shell to be fire formed to chamber and higher on primer vrs pin . I took shell and full length resized ..it hit higher towards middle almost like the 24 f hits primer .. Took a neck sized only shell which is formed to chamber and it's higher from center just enough it will not fire ... I believe this is it .
Not happy because I like neck sizing puts bullet same in throat . Right now I shoot in same holes at 50 yards .. 24 f with 22 hornet has tight chamber and you can get away with neck sizing. I noticed my 24v has a loose chamber there is play in factory shell but not my neck resized reloads.

Out to range and every shell fired .. I full length resized and all went off .. Took 2 shells neck sized and both did not go off... My 24v 222 has a loose chamber .. 24f has tight chamber it was hitting little off center also because I neck sized but enough it goes off ... Using lil gun powder on 22 hornet you are too use Cci 500 pistol primers as it burns slower and has thinner cup.
Here is my load for 222 . Cci 400 primers Hornady spire point bullets 50gr Rem shells Imr 4198 powder using 19.2 grs...At 50 yds in same hole .... This load does not explode on Gobblers ... ...
So this is end to this ....Got extra firing pin coming in case something happens but most likely not use it ..... Dad bought me this 24v back in early 60s and only shot it 6 times ... I have low mounted scope on it and hoping the shotgun shoots good using the scope on Gobblers .. That is my next project ..🙈

jimk I'm glad you got it sorted out. Learn all time who would thought neck sizing would do this ? Why is 222 rem chamber so loose? Jim enough ?🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
