Greeting from Down Under!
I just bought this beauty from an interstate dealer, virtually sight unseen. 22LR/410 combination with joined barrels, receiver stamped 'Savage 24J'. I've spent more on a big night at the pub than what it cost me!
Barrel stamp 1R, Receiver stamp 23R so a 1964 if I'm reading correct? I bought to replace the 1983 22/410 field grade I restored then stupidly sold.
Awesome condition all round - looks like it spent a lot of time in a cupboard somewhere and barely shot. Apart from factory imperfections, I can't see anything major wrong with it.
The original metal pivot plate was showing coppering, the only 'defect' I would report. I have mounted a Triple K new replacement. Added an Allen recoil pad, as I'm a disabled shooter and 3" 410 shells even hurt without a pad.
I've mounted BKL single mounts (x2), Weaver quad lock low rings and an older Korean made Bushnell Banner. Shoots CCI quiet 22LR 1/2 inch group offhand at 30 metres with my dodgy eyes. Haven't tried the 410 barrel yet.
Action is nice and tight. Extractors work fine.
Timber is gorgeous - much better than the 1983 field grade I had.
I've never seen a 24J before - only the 24J-DL versions.
Anyway - sorry for the ramble. Happy to post more pics if anyone is interested.
Regards.
