I've been hunting & shooting for over 60 years and I've never before seen a Double Dovetail on the rear sight on any gun much less a 24! The sight recently broke and there it was - a Double Dovetail on the barrel. The second dovetail was hidden beneath the single dovetail sight. GunParts has both available in 3/16". Is this common on 24s? Is there any benefit other than the obvious greater stability? Thanks

I don't recall ever hearing about this. Maybe the factory changed the sight clamp spacing in past, and milled the 2nd just in case the sight was replaced ? Really reaching here, but I don't know why two is required otherwise.

The double dovetail sight was one of the possibilities on Model 24's going back to the B-DL... www.gunpartscorp.com/products/109730DDon't know if yours had been replaced, or was fitted at the factory with a single dovetail sight on a rifle that wasn't supposed to have a DD sight when all they had was a barrel cut for a double.

Thanks painter. I have a double dovetail sight on the way. We'll see if it fits. Alec
