I ran into a deal I could not say 'no' to, a person wanting to sell their supply of Aquila 1 3/4" 12 Gauge minishell. I am a fan of single shot shotguns and thought this could work great in those. Repeaters apparently can have issues due to their non standard length.
Does any one have any 1st hand experience with these ? Shot - buckshot - slugs. If you do, go ahead and let us know.

I shot Federal minis in a vintage double-barrel on a couple of hunts. I figured they were at least comparable to 2 3/4" 20-gauge (can't remember if I actually did the math) and was lucky enough to bag a few planted pheasant.
So, yeah. Your Mdl 24 is much stronger than my old double.

The work fine just think of them as not having the plastic wad that is just there to take up the space where the black powder used to reside 20ish grains of smokless takes a lot less space than a 3dram equivlent(about 80 grains) of black

Well, my thoughts were for a particular firearm, a Yildez TK-12 single shot I already own. Very lightweight (probably < 5 lbs) so very punishing to shoot with even standard load 12 gauge game loads. Don't want to even think about magnum shells. I purchased a Short Lane 20 gauge adapter for it for recoil reduction and versatility - that helps some but I'm seeking even more relief for my 60 + year old shoulder. So is why those short shells are a consideration.
Thanks for the answers so far.

That mini shell, with it's 5/8 oz payload, will generate about a third of the recoil energy of a standard game load of 1 1/8 oz. Can't say if it will work for you, or not, but I doubt you'll find a softer shooting 12 gauge load. Recoil calculator... www.omahamarian.org/trap/shotshellenergy.html

Thanks painter for the information and recoil calculator link. That is good news. Attended a gun show this weekend and saw more mini-shell offered. Sterling I think was the name - I've never heard of it. Also saw .410 Brenekke slug loads for the 1sst time in person. I did not purchase because I recalled advice that shooting that through choke barrels might be hazardous, as these designs do not constrict for chokes. Or so the advice read said. Thanks again.

Check how it patterns with your gun. Pattern density is everything with shotguns.
