Last resort? I've been thinking of selling my 38-40/10mm Buckeye Blackhawk and buying a Ruger 357 Max… making it a Bisley. The day I picked up the Buckeye years back, the store had a NIB Max for $450? I've lamented it ever since that I didn't have the cash to grab it.

on line chats say ruger was the reason the 357max didn't catch on--because the cylinder length on rugers was too short and caused a higher rate of flame cutting--But more so in comp shooting when using lighter grain bullets

I think Remington was to blame and handloaders with light bullets. US Sporting Arms guns didn't have a problem, while their cylinders are longer it wasn't by very much at all. I also believe the top strap cutting over blown. There are still plenty of people using them with the right loads, 30 years later.

My wife, Patty, and I each have 16.5 inch Handi Rifle Maxis and love them. My 24V should be home this coming week. It's being reamed to Max, cut to 18.5 inches and threaded for choke tubes. I don't believe there's any advantage to a 24 inch barrel in a pistol caliber. I have a Blackhawk .357, but my emotions tell me I want a Max revolver. My brain tells me differently. I have arthur in my hands as a 'thank you' for thirty years of electrical work, and worry about the recoil in a hand gun. How bad is it? Also, we load the 158s and 180s to over two grand. Too hot for the revolver? My favorite bullet, the Hornady 180 gr. SSP would be out of the question.
