Hi Guys, I'm new here and this is my first post. Reading thru the posts I learned a lot about my old 22/410 Savage. You folks are a great resource!
I have an old Model 24, the one with the selector on the right side of the receiver instead of on the hammer. The selector arm inside the receiver broke and fell out. I still have it. Can anyone recommend a good gunsmith in NOVA or in the Shenandoah Valley to repair this old gun? I understand that many people replace the hammer with one that has a selector, but I would like to keep it in the original configuration with the selector on the side.

Welcome to the forum. You can go to the following website to find a gunsmith in or near your area: www.gunsmithusa.com Otherwise, if you are some what mechanical you can go to one of my earlier posts with complete directions for disassembly/reassembly of the early Model 24's. If you follow the steps it is not difficult, other forum members have used these directions successfully. Parts can be found at Numrich, Brownells, Jack First, e-bay, etc. Good luck and if you need any help just ask.

On the south side of Harrisonburg, out on Spader's Church Rd, there is a place called "Homestead Gunsmith." I think his number is 540-434-8028. It's an old guy and his son or maybe grandson. I've had him do several jobs for me, the older fellow, and I've been very pleased with his work, his prices, and his attitude.
His hours are a little strange. I think he farms part time. So best to call ahead, imo.
Edit: FWIW though, I imagine you can get that selector and install it yourself if you are the least bit handy. I wouldn't think it would require any machining, just a drop-in fit.
