I have a 24c that fails to eject a 20ga shell, even an unfired (slightly smaller?)shell!? 2 Gunsmiths have had a look at it and have failed to remedy the situation. A 300 BLK barrel insert would be ideal but I live in Australia, nice weather but....

Eject shell COMPLETELY out of chamber or lift out to be plucked out by fingerss ? The Savage 24s I am familiar with will not eject shells from chamber either. Just a part of its design.

jr is correct, all of the 24's I am familiar with all have rifle and shotgun extractors, not ejectors. A review of the 24C and the 24C Series M, P, and S schematics indicate that the rifle barrel definitely has an extractor. However, the shotgun barrel for all 24C variations is listed as having an ejector and ejector spring, not an extractor. Can anyone else verify this? So, if this is true, then I have one question for Heathen, does your 24C shotgun ejector have an ejector spring? If the ejector spring is missing this could cause the ejector to malfunction.

AFAIK, they are all just extractor. That 24C thing is probably a misprint/confusion.

I don't have a C model, but my 20 gauge DL is definitely an extractor.

Should have said extract! once the shell goes into the chamber I need a cleaning rod or the point of a knife to extract the shell from the chamber.

heathen, a couple of questions...when you close the gun does the shotgun extractor close under the rim of the shotgun shell? Also when you open the gun with a shell in the chamber is the extractor still caught under the rim of the shotgun shell or is it pulled away from the shotgun shell with the shotgun shell still in the chamber?

I don't know if you fixed this, but mine had this problem as well. It was mainly the extractor. I had to replace the extractor spring (new one was longer) and add a part (Extractor Lever Spring Plunger) as well as clean everything thoroughly (I suspect it had never been cleaned before) and polish the extractor itself. I also polished the bore, particularly the first 3 inches. Works great now.
