Pics 1,2,3,4, are self explanatory. Pic 5...The stamps from top to bottom...SP9, 0, 5, SP9.. It's hard to make out the stamp following SP but I believe it's a 9 or possibly an o the same size as the top part of the 9. Pic 6...Left to right...M, 48 in oval, 98 in half circle, 51 Pic 7...Left to right...12 in oval, 34, 1 w/an X over, 5 w/an X over. No pic, but the barrels have a block between themnear the muzzle under the front sight. WHEW !! That took me a while. Steve

Model, age, what all the stamps refer to, especially the 2 with X over them, and the matching SP9 or SPo Thanks painter Steve

I don't see anything in your photos to indicate year of mfg. All those stampings are assembly markings. Is there anything on the outside, or inside, of the receiver itself?

Between reading here, buying guns, and looking at the old catalogs, I've learned that the 24-"V" model began in the late 60's and that the 24V series D began in 1979. The 79 24 V series D is the year/series when chamberings were first offered in 357, 223, 22hornet, as opposed to years prior in 24 V through 24V series C only being offered in 222 and 30/30-all over 20 gauge. The 1979 year models were last models made with the half moon shape where the stock meets the receiver. You gun has a flat fit spot where te stock meets the receiver. That makes me think your gun is 1980 or later. I don't know how to age them beyond that.

Which is the serial number.
Other than being post 1968 I know of no way to date a Savage by serial number.

I measured the muzzle after cleaning/polishing the bore(with a set of Mitutoyo digital calipers and then got the true measurement by measuring the OD of the upper(ID) jaws with my micrometer[retired machinist]) I got .6015" Bore measured .597" before I cleaned it.That's ~.00225 (2-1/4 thousands inch) build-up.Kinda surprised me.
Full .590-.595 Imp/Mod .600-.503 Mod .603-.608 Imp/Cyl .609-.611 Cylinder bore = .617 Skeet I = .613 Improved Cyl. = .611 Skeet II = .608 Modified = .603 Improved Mod. = .598 Full = .592 Extra Full = .590
Does the checkering make it a "Deluxe" ? Steve

Most DL's had a hard chromed receiver. That said, your gun has the same white line spacer on the grip cap, and Monte Carlo stock as my 24B-DL.
I don't honestly know.
