Hello, SAVAGE24.COM! New guy here.
I just picked up a minty 24C (S Series for $350) and have a question or two.
The forend pivot plate is plastic (not damaged, so far) but I've seen them advertised for sale in all metal.
Any advantage over the plastic in regard to durability and are they 'drop-in' opposed to some fitting required?
The rifle came with the cheesy vinyl take-down case. It was in OK shape with one small rip (1/2 inch) on the top fold. I figured I could get $25 out of it.....the Gunbroker.com auction ended at 77 bucks!
Are these cases collectable or what?
Thanks and great site!

heck of a good question about the pivot plate, i have a 24C with the same plastic part, and i am curios as you are, i must say though, i have put well over a thousand rounds through mine, and the part is holding up well, there's allot of knowledge on this site, hopefully one of the experts will chime in, as far as the case goes, i haven't a clue, Paul

In my experience, the plastic pivot plate is cheesier and not as attractive as the case-colored metal ones, but if it fits the gun well it probably will never be a problem in terms of wearing out. As for the plastic case, I hate to say it, but you probably should have kept it. The case itself is much scarcer than the gun itself and probably would have added quite a bit of value in the future. More value than what you got for it, however, is debatable. It's kind of like boxes for older guns that often are worth as much as the guns they once held. Your $77 is in the price range for the few cases I've seen sold online in recent years. The last one, if memory serves me, went for $80 a couple of years ago; they don't show up too often -- what I'd call pretty scarce but not rare. FWIW, I've found new aftermarket two-compartment cases at gunshows that work well with the 24C in the $25 range.

Thanks for the info!
I ordered a new case the other day. I think it was made by Galati (model ATD-22). I think it may be discontinued as some sites say "no backorders accepted."
I hope someone gets some use (or as display) out of the slightly damaged case. I didn't know they had that much collector appeal.
