Hello all
I have a Savage 24 that was left to me by my Dad. It is a 22/410 and says "Savage 24" but I can't find a serial number anywhere. It also has a "4C" enclosed in a circle. I assume that means it was made in 1951 based on your FAQ post I read.
I am trying to find instructions on how to disassemble the gun so I can clean it. I don't think it has ever been taken apart (firing pins, hammer, selector button, etc)
Thanks for any help.

go to e-gunparts for schematic but all you need to do is remove the stock--there's a big a-- bolt under the butt plate---you need a long flat screw driver--take it off and that's all you need to do to clean everything--you really don't need to take the "guts" apart

Thanks for the info. I haven't fired the gun in at least 20 years but I always kept the gun oiled and the barrels are clean. My Dad bought the gun new and it was the first one I ever hunted with.
I decided to take it out the other day for a late season squirrel hunt and found that the .22 firing pin was making light strikes on the cartridges. Some would fire others would not. So I thought I needed to disassemble the "guts" to clean it out. After looking at the screws that hold the firing pins in place, I don't think I am going to be able to remove them without scratching things up.
I'll remove the stock and clean what I can from there.

i have the same light strike problem with my 24C, the rifle firing pin comes out easily to clean, just be aware of the return spring, i have tried everything to fix the problem, it seems the pin doesn't hit high enough on the round in the chamber, and one really can't do much about that besides cleaning the lock up, my last resort might be increasing the main spring tension for a harder strike on the firing pin, Another issue might be a hammer extension, i put one on my 24C and the FTF rate more than doubled Does anyone have any suggestions? Paul

thanks bigkelly, have been to the FAQ, my thoughts were the fix was just for the shotgun, my shotgun pin hits like a freight train, couldn't find any info on the 22 rifle light strikes, SO, will modifying the plunger work for the 22 rifle too?? Thanks, Paul Guys you need to look at this site's FAQ's--it ytells you how to correct light strikes

I read the FAQ's too and thought it talked about the shotgun firing pin. I have no issues with it.
But even if I did, I would still have to disassemble the firing mechanism to get to the plunger, right? That is what I started out trying to find an answer to. How do you disassemble the gun?
There are a couple of pins. Just drift them out?

try the FAQ fix it should work for the rifle
To take the "guts" there are 2 pins if memory serves me right but getting that main plunger back in takes 3 hands so go there as a last resort
