Went to the Oakdale Gun Club in Oakdale, MN. They decided to let the public shoot Saturdays and Sunday starting July 6th this year. Should have been a slam dunk as it's a short drive and I always shoot on Sunday because I have my 90 year old Dad on Saturdays. Well, I saw rain moving towards us as I neared the range. Light rain fell as I checked in. $22 no matter how many guns you bring seemed excessive, but hey, it beat paying for gas to drive to Wisconsin. Besides, heavy weather devastated the area where the Owen Anderson Range is located. Went to the 50 yard range first and shot the Ruger 10/22 with the scope I put on it. Not even on the paper. Also, I had 5 range officers hovering while I shot. Packed up and went to the 25 yard range. Turns out I was high and left. Once I was on the bull, I switched to the 24S-D. I had the Williams firesight off when they fixed the rimfire scope grooves and need to get it back on the bull. It was shooting right, so I made a slight adjustment and was on the bull. OK then. I went out and changed to a smaller target. I shot 2 shots and couldn't get the gun to break open. WTH!!! It's a break action, what could go wrong? So I pack up and go home. All the while it was raining steadily, but not hard. I get home and put the guns on the bench for cleaning and in the case of the Savage, troubleshooting. I cleaned the Ruger and put it away and then uncased the Savage. After diddling with it, I got it to break open. I look down in the receiver and lo and behold...a .22 casing. Doi! It was extremely humid and rather dark in the shooting covered sheds. My shooting glasses had been fogging and I must have knocked it in when I ejected the last shot. I am glad there was nothing to "fix", and I got both guns dialed in for 25 yards in an hour and a half, so I was mostly successful. The rain got worse and in the afternoon there were tornadoes. The area in Wisconsin near Owen Anderson gun range got nailed again. This summer has been a mess for weather. Hopefully it will stay dry and sunny, so I will be able to shoot again next Sunday. I want to get the S-D dialed in for 50 yards (taller than the squirrel trees) and fire a 20 gauge slug or two to see where they land. The Ruger is scoped so I'll do 50 and 100 yards.
