I had a Sheridan Silver Streak that I mounted a scope onto using a clamp that goes around the .20 cal. barrel and has a 3/8” dovetail on top. Simple enough eh? Does anyone make something like this for those older side-selector 24’s that are not grooved?

Grumpy old guy here; why in pluperfect hell-o would you want to ruin a perfectly fine firearm by putting a scope on a gun that was designed elegantly to be used with an open sight? What am I missing here?!

What am I missing here?! I guess you're missing my simple question. A clamp on mount can be removed. I guess enough people wanted to put a scope on their M24 to give the manufacturer the idea that to put grooves on the barrel. I even have one with a base for a scope. Bet a person can do better with a .22 Hornet and a scope when their target is 150 yds.away. So actually, no thanks to you, I found one. My 71 yr. old eyes will appreciate it. Give an old guy a break, for crying out loud!

I once attempted to 'make-do' with a scope base mounted to a the barrel on a Rossi Puma lever action. Scout mount. Did not work worth a hill of beans - even with light recoil from .357 magnum, there was slight movement and precision was no better than those obtained with factory irons. It was removed.
I agree with vancmike above - these guns (especially rimfire) work well with the factory sights. A worthwhile upgrade might be an aperture sight. If your mounts works, then I'm glad. Please post your results from this.
Fwiw, I did mount a Bushnell red dot sight on a Savage 94 30-30 / 12 gauge, but it had its factory scope base and the sights mounted just fine. It will make a fine feral hog rifle.

What did you find and where did you find it??

Lot of us on this site are aging gracefully (or maybe not). I'm 78 and don't have any issues using iron sights. But I'm lucky: cataract surgery on both eyes did. wonders!
