Anyone load or shoot 222 with a barns bullet? I was looking at the Barnes TSX and TTSX bullets for possibly loading for a 100 yard deer bullet around Farm. I've used 50 and 55 grain SP's before but Just was thinking of trying a Barns all copper. I've never used a Barnes in any rifle or Handgun but see lots of hype online etc. Basically have no good reason to try them but just wanted to if they are really any good.

Your 222 has a 1:14 twist and solid copper bullets are long for their weight. You'll need to use a stable bullet calculator to see if your choice will stabilize, you will need the bullet length and a realistic muzzle velocity. Search online for bullet twist stabilizer calculator, or similar words.

huntchic,
I have a 24V with a 222 Rem rifle barrel. For comparison I load Hornady #2267, FMJ-BT, 55 gr. copper bullets. At 100 yards I can consistently place 3 touching round holes on a paper target. The data on the Hornady bullet is as follows: dia. .224", BC: 0.243 and sectional density: 0.157. The Barnes TSX FB 55 gr. bullet data is as follows: .224" dia, BC: .209, and sectional density of 0.157. The 55 gr. should work, but as ptypegreen suggested look at a stable bullet calculator to check to see if your bullet of choice will stabilize with your rifle's twist. I did try a 53 gr. Hornady bullet, and it did not stabilize in my rifle. The 55 gr. works just fine.

I've shot Hornady sp bullets in 50 and 55 grains with no problems so was thinking the 45 grain Barns TSX should stabilize and work. I guess the only way to really know is to load some and try them in my rifle. posted hoping someone here had actually loaded some and experience with the Barnes.

I couldn't get them (53gr?) to stabilize in my ol' 700 .22-250 and they were going a WHOLE lot faster.
