Hey guys, I have a Savage 24 Series S, 22 over 20 gauge. I have always known that it's fairly accurate. I took it out to see how well the barrels were lined up with each other. Not too bad, the 22 barrel is just about dead on, and the shotgun barrel, shooting 3/4 oz Breneke KO slugs just a bit left but into a nice cloverleaf. The range was 40 yards, and I also shot a 1 oz load of 6 shot just to see how that patterned. Point of aim was the bottom of the black diamond. 22 ammo was Aguila Super Extra, not the guns favorite, but not too bad. Shot pattern is not very tight, but would work ok on birds and small game inside 40 yards. I guess I could drift the sight to get the slugs a bit closer to POA but it's only about 2-3" left now. Plenty close for what I need. Here's a picture, hopefully it will work. Attachments:

I think I would consider myself luck and leave well enough alone!

I can't get mine that close, even dogging it down at the bench. Don't think th terrible trigger is the problem. I think I could tighten it up with a wedge between the barrels, but brother if it was as tight as yours I'd leave mine alone. For the 24S, that's great. windy

That's actually pretty amazing regulation.
Usually they're not even close. The reason the guns cost $100 and not $3000

Thanks for the comments guys. When I bought the gun new back in the 80s I hadn't noticed it had a sway-back. The 22 barrel was curved down in the middle, and the barrel shot quite a bit higher than the shotgun barrel. My solution which has worked for all these years was to take an upholstery tack, remove the pin and wedge the head between the barrels. The tack head can be moved back and forth to get the elevation corrected. Next time I get out to the range, I will drift the rear sight just a bit so that the 22 shoots just right of POA, which should put the 20 gauge slugs another 1-1 1/2" closer to POA. I do love this gun, it rides with me in my truck, and I affectionately call it my "kill anything" gun.

That is a very nice-to-know hack for regulating your barrel. Thank you for sharing that tip with us.
I agree with others above - you are lucky that your barrels shoot that close to one another. Makes shooting it that much more fun.
