I have a savage 24 S-E .22 lr / 20 gauge the model number is P099809. I’m trying to figure out what Choke the barrel is I’ve seen people guess at full or modified and short of having Choke Tubes put in that barrel which I don’t really want to do, I want to be able to shoot either buckshot or slugs through that barrel and concerned it’s too constricted. Just wondering if anybody can help answer that question for me thanks.

Probably too thin to get chokes added, but you'd have to measure and run them by a smith who does it.
Non camper 20ga guns are almost always modified I believe. Fixed modified choke will have no problems with traditional slugs or buckshot.

I have a chart I printed off the computer a long time ago that lists the choke diameters for each gauge and choke. It is by colonialarms.com . It lists a modified to be around .603 and an improved modified (which my 24/V is) at around .598 and a full to be .592 inside measurement in inches (.10"s). If you have access to a micrometer it is the easiest way to figure out your choke. Not all chokes are exactly the same so you have to see where yours falls on the chart. Hope this helps!

My 24 series S shoots them pretty well at reasonably close range (50yds). Buckshot is ok too. Have a look at my post here. I posted a target that I shot with Brenneke slugs, #6 shot and 22 LR.

… I finally got around to picking up inexpensive, digital caliber, the inside diameter of my 20 gauge barrel is approximately .48” / 12.2 mm. The outside is approximately .73 so what size choke do I have thanks Jim

I think you need to remeasure the inside diameter right at the muzzle. .48" is WAY too tight for any 20 gauge choke. A 20 ga cylinder bore (no choke) is .617" and an extra full choke is .590". So your measurement of .48" is way off for anything for a 20 gauge. Perhaps you haven't zeroed the measuring device?

Calipers aren't real great for inside holes either, though the larger they are, the better they are at it, so might not be too bad for a shotgun bore. I know they don't work well on revolver throats. lol
.48" would even be too small for 28ga. (ETA: too small for .32 gauge as well I believe)
