New member here.. I just inherited an old savage 22/410. The action wasn't breaking open. So I took the stock off to find the main spring plunger out of place. Anyhow, after closer inspection I realised the main spring plunger was pretty rusty at the end with the plunger seat. so the plunger and the seat are pretty much rusted together. No movement what so ever. I have it soaking in some oil right now. However, I would like to just replace the entire thing. I looked on gunpartscorp.com, they have the spring and the plunger seat.. but no main spring plunger in stock. Do any of you guys know where I can find one? Or is that website my only help?

Numrich (gunpartscorp) is usually my first go-to, but the "out-of-stock" messages are frustrating, to say the least; I checked for parts for an old Stevens rolling block once and found Numrich had only two parts in stock out of 47 listed. You might try www.gun-parts.com (Bob's in Arkansas). He has a lot of parts for a lot of guns, although popular pieces are often out of stock there, too. Good luck.

Thanks for the help littleguns.. I emailed bob about the parts and he didn't have them. He gave me another companies phone number that I need to contact. I did have some luck with getting my old mainspring in working order. However, I still would like to replace it with a new one. But I thought about putting the old one in to just do a function test on the gun. Now, when I took the buttstock off, the mainspring wasn't in the correct location and that's why the action wouldn't break open. Now I've got to figure out the correct way of putting it in? anyone have any advice?

Go to the Savage 24 main page and click on Model 24 links. Look at "Trigger Work on a Model 24c series P." It shows the action with the stock off and you can see the correct mainspring location on page two. Good Luck.
