I have a Savage D24 Series M, .22LR/.410. It is in excellent condition. I have never seen one like it anywhere. It has a Fox and scenery engraving. I can not find it to put a value on it. I was told $700 3 years ago. Can anyone shed some light about the value of this gun. I am thinking it was made about 1972.
thank you, KD8EGV@yahoo.com

Gun values are very relative and depending on where you live can be different from other locals. That being said and for what its worth the Thirty-Fourth Edition; Blue Book of Gun Values by S.P. Fjestad states: 100% $475 down to $180 at 60%. 90% = $275. IMHO $700 is crazy high, but some people are willing to pay that and that is why you see it so high. From what I have seen on these $500 would be realistic in 90% or better.

The gun is over 90%. Barely any scratches and the bluing is close to perfect. It is the only one I have seen with the Fox scenery engraving. Can you tell me anything about the engraving? I am from NW Ohio. kd8egv@yahoo.com

Other folks would have to comment on the engravings, IDK. If the asking price is in your budget and the purchase would make you happy, then why not?

KD8EGV,
The fox panel engraving on the left with the turkey panel engraving on the right side of the frame is common to all the 24DL De Luxe, the early 24D Deluxe, and some of the 24V Centerfire guns. It does not appear on the early 24, 24S Sidelever, 24C Camper's Companion, 24 Field Grade, 24VS, or 24CS guns. There is a scroll pattern engraving that is on the 24F guns on both sides of the frame. The only other engraving style is on some of the 24V/F transition guns which feature the same fox panel engraving on the left and a grouse panel engraving on the right.

It has the Fox on one side and the Grouse on the other. Its a D24 Series M. the bluing is near mint. There is 1 1/4" dent (not a chip) in the butt. Otherwise it is super clean and tight. I wouldnt sell it for no $500. I will keep it for that. Might trade for a S&W MP 9mm. Wish I knew how many they made like it. Cant be many in its condition though.

There are methods of removing/repairing the dent (one way is to put damp towels over the offending dent, then iron it carefully, using your household iron.
Then having done that, put it on Gunsamerica. If it's as pristine as you seem to wish it to be, someone may buy it.
Alas, I suspect most of the regular habitants of this site are a little more conservative than you'd like.
