Anyone have 20ga buckshot suggestions? I remember my dad getting one in the 60's, it was $63 new at Sears. Getting tomorrow " 22m/ 20ga. 24S " for coyote. Here in Pa. I cant go larger than #4 buck, and most of what I see are #3. Does anyone reload a good one, what kind of range and still a good pattern. Hopping for 50+ yds. with good penetration.

Hello! Unless your gonna load your own, all I have ever seen is #3 buck. (Largest I have seen) I have a box of #2 in 3" that I have been using but not to 50 yards!! That's prime 22 mag territory!!! I have killed five or six with the skattergun and #2 & BB shot to maybe 35 yards. Probably work a little farther but like I say I don't need to. For me the shot gun is for fast movers or ones that slip in UNKNOTICED but that's a rare event. Good luck finding ANY large shot 20g these days!! CW

If you do any reloading, you can just work up your own load. Shotgun presses are relatively cheap as I recall, especially if you find somebody who "though they were going to reload" and then didn't. (Both my brother and I got our shotgun presses for free from people like this, but that was back before the mania started).
I agree with CW on the range. Without a tighter choke, you're going to have trouble getting to 50 yd. I use a 12ga with 3" #4 shot loads for turkey and even with a super full choke the pattern falls apart at 45 yds.

I was looking on-line last night and Federal makes a 20ga load in their Personal Defense line that has #4 buck. 2 3/4"/24 pellets/1100fps/PD256
Good luck with the coyotes. They are hard to call here in MN but we are going to keep after it.
I just bought a 24V-A on Gunbroker and haven't taken delivery but I am fired up. I was so happy to find this forum and look forward to learning more from the many experienced users here.

Something else to consider. I recently miked my barrel and look like I have a very tight full choke... Buck shot tends to pattern VERY poorly from tight chokes. ;( #2 may prove a better patterning option after all...

Sorry about including everything I am still figuring out how to use the posting interface. I have never had much luck with buckshot and full chokes either. There seems to be a difference of opinion on the choke size so I will have a gunsmith measure it for me. If it doesn't do well with the buckshot I will probably pony up for shotshell reloading equipment so I can handload Hevi-shot in BB or T. They only make the Dead Coyote loads in 12ga. I am a big fan of Hevi-shot because of how it performs on turkeys. I almost bought a .223 over 12ga in the synthetic but the one I settled on was so much prettier. Sucker for good looking guns I guess. -chuckles

You can also check with Paraklese Technologies, they are a custom ammunition manufacture that cater to both LEO (law enforcement officer) and civilians alike. They mark which products are available. Availability is also listed there as well. www.paraklesetechnologies.com/products.asp?cat=13Not only for 20 gauge - even have some loads for .410 users. Hope this helps.
