Check for lubrication on the latch & shelf... It needs to be dry.

I have a .223/20, don't have any issues on opening action. Mine is so snug if I don't keep the latching parts well lubed it is near impossible to open. Does yours lock up tight? That sounds scary to me but I am not an expert on 24's.

Thank you for the responses yes latch is very wet and lubed so I have cleaned it and dryer it and we will see tomorrow, I have question this condition I occurs without having a 20 gauge shell installed does that make any difference and capt did you shoot yours with just the .223 and it stayed shut after you shot it? I was wondering if there was some type of feature that allowed it to open when only single shot? The spent .223 cases are in very good shape, no bulged, or primer damage so I know it is at least staying together long enough for all the pressure to be gone, at that was why I was asking if this was normal as a start.
