Hello all. I guess I've been lurking around here long enough. I just got my first 24. It's a C series P. I "found" this old gun hanging in a buddy's shop, covered in rust spots and filthy with shed-dust grime. I literally couldn't see through the 22 barrel. Mud wasps or something. So I offered to take it home and clean it up for him (out of pity for the firearm). Well you know what happened next- While it was at my house, I fell madly in love. Long story short, my buddy told me to "Just go ahead and keep it." Needless to say, he is a good friend. I've done a good bit of work, and still have a ways to go. I added the pouch/cheekrest thing to the stock (after much alterations), and made the sling. The 22 barrel is dead on, and the 20ga shoots slugs about 5" low at 40 or so yards. So after reading up on the guns, I'm pretty happy with poi on mine. Though I'm sure I'll try and tinker 'em closer together later on down the road. I've already learned a lot from you guys on here. Thanks.

Nice job on cleaning. Free is always a very good price.
If you want to re-finish the stock, there are several posts on this site on what members have done. I'm in the "strip the old varnish and apply several coats of boiled linseed (or Tru-oil)" camp.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just replace the stock, because I really don't like the shape of it. I'll definitely have some questions about that.

Good eye, TB. Thanks guys. My setup is not quite complete. I just threw a couple doodads into the bag for now. I actually don't have anything inside the stock. I'm toying with the idea of a short-sectioned, multi piece cleaning rod. I got some snow down the 22 barrel once, and was lucky enough to find a stick I could whittle down to push it out. It's nice when dumb is accompanied by lucky!

Before you invest in a stock, Sportsmans warehouse (and probably Bass Pro and Cabelas as well) sells a neoprene sock with various size riser pads that you can insert to get the profile you want. It's about $20 as I recall and makes a great interim step. I have one on my deer rifle and it works great.

Just a thought.

Logan- That's a good idea, and I definitely have room in the bag. Scott- I imagine the product you're talking about raises the comb height? My problem with the stock is not the cheek weld, but the finger weld, if you will. I'd like a little bit of something for the bottom three fingers of my shooting hand to rest on. Bit more of a pistol grip shape. Having my wrist flexed into that angle is just not as comfortable or natural to me when I throw that gun up to my shoulder. Great suggestions guys, thank you.

BOYDs makes replacement stocks for the 24's in both English and pistol grip.

Nice find!Looks like you sewed the shotshell loops to accept .22s, great idea! You also will be surprised by how nice the stock can be refinished. Mine have great wood grain and look great with walnut stain and clear coats. Have fun!
