I inherited an old Stevens 22-410 from my grandpa. He hasn't used the gun in years and the hammer will not stay cocked back, any suggestions?

I would pull the stock and give it a good cleaning. COULD be just gummed up...

That problem could be more so in the trigger than the hammer. As CW said, first things first: open it & clean it.
