Its been 6 weeks since making arrangements for my newest Savage 24! This one is a 24V 30-30 over 20ga. Needs a Trigger Guard. (Got one) and a recoil pad. I will install a Pachmayer grind to fit rifle pad. The thin one, I can also cut to length before hand. My 24DL is pretty long for me.
Pics when I have her maybe this weekend.

The replacement from GunParts Corp is a poor fit--I know I bought one several ears ago. Recurved backwards, it is a place to snag limbs and vines. Their version is a band of soft iron bent under at the front to allow for the original gloved-finger clearance of the original but a bear to get the screw into. Later models had plastic guards which cracked easily and is probably the reason there is high demand for replacement trigger guards for the 24. If you can't find a similar guard (Model 94? Stevens/Savage) that you can custom fit, consider looking into a home crafted substitute. A band that is bell curved forward to mount flush yet with a fold back attachment stub would probably keep proper ergonomics and avoid the snag prone design. Or get the GPC/Numrich Arms aftermarket and JB Weld a wedge to fill out the snag notch.
If aesthetics are highly important and you can borrow one to digitize, then 3-D printing or milling one are possibilities. Just brain storming: with an original or sculpted wax form, you can make a mold and sand cast one from aluminum at home. Good Luck
PS I was on the old board but apparently a newbie here.

Thanks brother great information and some out of the box ideas!!! I have a replacement guard. I did not realize it was so involved to swap it out!!! I just picked it up and have t had time to play. Maybe later tonight. The stock needs finish applied. The checkering is all smooth and varnished over on forend. It's sanded off on but but no finish on butt. Looks to have a little figure too!! I'll steel wool and finish with linspeed oil. The steel to wood fit is very close so I gotta be careful not to remove too much wood. It also needs a but plate/pad. I will install a rifle pad. LOP is shorter and about perfect for me. The stock 14.5" is too long. I like a project so this is right up my alley. I hope regulation is better with this one!!! CW

Well it needs a bit more work than I assumed... Not awful, I mean at least the steel is good. It has a few rubs but just character marks. The wood well that's another story. Someone chopped the LOP and did so crooked. ;( The for end was sanded and a sloppy finish coat applied...complete with drips and no finish on the top or inside. The butt got sanded the pistol grip is misshapen, I think I can re shape it. But the grip cap may have to go... The butt needs a pad. I knew and its OK. I have put on dozens of pads. Then I need to refinish the wood. BUT I cannot sand anything as the wood is at metal level. The crooked cut stock could be a problem. I will need a very secure jig to hold the wood and chop squarely all while taking minimal off.
Lastly, my trigger guard will not fit this model. I really do not like this one but may have the live with it....
I like a project, so I guess I got one!!
Its a "B" series 24V 30-30 over 20ga.

I fit a plastic butt plate and steel wooled the stocks and threw on two coats of TUR-Oil today. Looks better I think. I need to recut the butt its angle is wrong. Also mounted a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4X20 scope. CW

CW the wood really does look nice. You clearly have some experience working on guns.
What kind of mount is that? I had to use Millet Extended rings to get my 2.5X Leupold to the right eye relief and it looks like that is what that mount does but I've never seen that kind of mount before.
Now that I look more closely maybe see through so you can see the iron sights?

There was an original trigger guard on eBay last night. (Mar 14 2014) along with the entire guts. Looks like someone disassembled a M24 and eBayed it sans reciever.

I have a home-made trigger guard on my .30-30/20, too. Just think of it as adding "character". Hehe.
