I am looking for a couple applicable cases for my 24's to carry them apart in two pieces.
I really like the SKB case and its a good length, but the ''barrel'' portion is too small, for my red dot on my DL. It works well for the 24 22/410.
Something that will allow a scoped barrel is what I'm looking for and not out of proportion to the gun.
What do any of you guys have or use?

How about a roll case? They're pretty commonly available in a variety of sizes, and if you can't find exactly what you want, are very easy to make out of anything from an old towel or leather on up to specialty materials... I'd consider something like oilskin or treated canvas duck.

How about a pair of wool XL boot socks inserted in one of those folding chair bags ? The socks can be easily silicone spray impregnated for storage. The sock is how I store my forearm in the sleeve with the barrel. The take-down case is the original that came with the 24 - I think Black Sheep made them for Savage if I'm not mistaken. Hope this helps.

Check out the takedown cases on the Skinner Sights website, they look very similar to the original Savage cases...and the prices are reasonable. Haven't tried one yet, but I'm looking...

I picked up two cases off Midway last week (clearance 25$) for take down shotguns and they will work. I have decided long ago canvas BOYD makes some of the best cases. So these are a "little" cheaper. But serviceable..
I may pick up a skinner to look at too.
THANKS!

How are those Midway cases? I hate to spend a lot on a case that's just going to ride in the trunk 99% of the time...but the reviews were not very good, and I don't want junk. Boyd makes very nice stuff, but out of my price range. Splurged on a Boyt dog trainers bag once for my wife, but it's that kind of "special" purchase. Just finally got my first 24 on Saturday, btw...one of the very late 20ga/22lr field grade guns...nothing really special, but very lightly used, so I'm pretty happy. I can stop obsessing now... Unless....hmmm. A 12ga/30-30 sure would be nice..... ^--^

I like the Rossi matched pair cases for general use for non scoped 24's. They come in 2 sizes, small will fit the 24C Camper, and larger the others. Also extras like slings, butt stock shell holders and such fit in them.

I've used the Rossi larger case for a 24F. The Skinner Sight cases do well for a friends' takedown 10/22. My favorite way of keeping a takedown handy has been a 24" or 30" tool bag. Little large, but can store lots of other stuff there, and more importantly it does not scream GUN the way most gun cases do.
