Sorry if this is already elsewhere, my google-fu is legendary mainly for its absence.
i've had a 24C for years and love it. I recently had a chance to pick up a 24V in 30/30 over 20 ga; something I've always wanted. It turns out that the .30/30 firing pin is broken (not stuck, I think, as letting the hammer down does not make it emerge). I gather there are replacement parts out there, but what is the procedure for replacing it?
Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried on YouTube, but all of them seem to start after disassembly.
The exploded drawing shows a horseshoe-shaped "firing pin retaining plate". I'm a bit leary of trying to just lever that upwards - visions of springs and itty-bitty pieces flying all over the place. Is there a recommended way of removing it?
Thanks.

the firing pin retaining plate doesn't have any other parts that will come flying out--just gently pry it up--make sure to remember its orientation for when its time to re-install becareful when you remove the firing pin retaining screw--those suckers are easy to strip the slot if the screw is in tight or stuck the 1ST video on the utube is not a 24V being re assembled so it wont be a lot of help

OK, got it out and the firing pin is indeed broken, no firing pin spring.
I've found a firing pin at Numrich but have struck out on the spring from them, Proppert and Brownells. Plus some others. Is there something commonly available which will serve in its place?
Thanks.

Seems like I read somewhere of some one using the spring from one of the cheap Bic butane lighters. Also, Ace hardware has springs of all sorts and sizes. Just estimate what the dimensions and choose one or two. Also, I just remembered when I was doing a trigger job on my 24 I broke the trigger return spring. I made a replacement easily from a piece of s/s fishing leader. Some folks make springs from piano wire also. There are springs in all kinds of doodads that might work too.

Captcapsize: " Seems like I read somewhere of some one using the spring from one of the cheap Bic butane lighters."
Dumbest idea I've ever heard. Long, skinny spring, flopping all over, why would you suggest something like that?
And it works perfectly...
Thanks for the tip. Now if it ever stops raining, off to the range to check it out practically.
On second thought, what's really scary is that somebody thought of it in the first place. "Jimmy, why don't you take an ax to that lighter to fix your rifle?" Amazing.

It might be a good idea to use up the fuel first, then apply the ax.

See, I would have ordered the 175 miscellaneous spring kit from Brownell's, then discovered I'd already ordered said kit twice before, then cut, clipped and sawed said springs, lost 12 of them on the kitchen floor, broke a lens in my glasses when one popped loose, and then and only then, read this post about the Bic lighter spring.
Come to think of it, when I was a young lad, my 22/410 trigger spring broke and an nice old guy fixed it using some kind of spring from the innards of a '54 Chev. carburetor. That was 53 years ago, and I've never taken it apart because it's still working. And now I'm the old guy.....
