I have a 222/20 gauge and the 222 was doing this exact same thing. I took the extractor out, oiled the spring and cleaned everything really good. It extracts like new now. I don't remember if the 20 gauge has an extractor like that that can be removed. All I had to do for the 222 extractor is remove a small screw on the side of the chamber. Maybe this will help.
