Can anyone give me advice on selling (or be interested in buying) my Savage 24P 22/20Ga. I bought it back in the 70's. It's a very accurate piece, and it's in beautiful condition. It's been wrapped up for 34 years. I unwrapped it a couple of months ago, removed the stock and front end, stripped off the spattered poop-brown toned paint job and refinished the newly-revealed cherry wood with 5 coats of satin hand rubbed urethane - now they've got a nice soft, light amber tone. It looks nice against the blue.
I can provide as many photos as needed and any info I have.

Sounds nice.....Should post a pic or two that might get some attention....I also have a Savage 24P(22Mag/20G...Field Grade)...Wish I had some spare cash....Been thinking of getting another.....Want a 223/20 or a 357/20 but having another 22/20 wouldn't be bad(if I had the cash,Would give it to my oldest G-Son in a couple years).....If no one here wants it you can always list it on Armslist.com I see them sell fast on there......And if it's like bran-new I'm sure it will go fast......But I hope someone from here picks it up from ya......I'm just getting back to work myself from a lay-off or like I said I'd prob get it........Is it a 22 Long Rifle or 22 Mag over 20G? Good luck and I hope someone that truly likes these guns buys it up.....I love mine,Was passed down to me from my Dad(who passed away back in 98).

papabill, it's a .22 LONG RIFLE/20GA 2 3/4 & 3 INCH SHELLS. Who knows - it could still be around when you come up with the cash... I'll be putting up some pics shortly. I'm in no hurry, but it would be nice to give it a loving home

I don't even know what the gun is worth, and there's no real standard out there - hardly anything reliliable to compare with. It seems like it's whatever you can get. I'll have to do research I guess. If anyone knows how to go about doing this or the types of honest/trustworthy people to talk with...

The best way to find going prices that I have used is to go to the Gunbroker.com web site. Do a search on SOLD Savage 24's /Stevens 22-410's. There are many completed auctions on these guns. Gives you a very good idea of the value. Hope this helps. PS I just paid $341.00 at auction for a nice older Stevens 22-410

That sounds about right on the price as that's what I've seen them go for on that site and up to $550.....Same with Armslist.com When ever I see one on there they go for any where from $300 to $600 depending on gauge and caliber....I would love to get my hands on a 223/20 or a 357/20.....I'm on the look out kinda for what you just got BLAZE a 22LR/410 for my Gran-Son but I have a little time to find one and if nothing at all I guess I could always get him a Savage 42(22LR/410) the new ones they came out with but i'd rather it be a 24......Just getting back to work this week from a lay-off so I'll be paying on some bills then get back into my collecting so to speak....If it's in great condition I can maybe see you getting $400-500 depending on how bad some one wants one but I'm no gun appraiser so don't take my word for it I'm just doing the same as you and going off of what I have seen them go for.....If I do decide I have some cash and wanna pick it up from you I'll let you know PineStateTrader but if someone else asks first please by all means go right a head and don't wait on me........Sorry for the late come back.....And I hope you find a good home for it and get a good price.....

Papabill: I've had several Savage 24/Stevens 22-410 over the years. Always enjoyed them, but let them all go for one reason or another. Now, as I'm retired, I just wanted a decent (not collector) example of a Stevens 22-410 to tramp the woods with and enjoy time with my grandson (s). I've seen recently several 24's in .222 Rem/ 20ga. at $450-550, but the .223's and .357's seem to bring a large premium. And , of course, the steady increase of shipping and FFL transfer costs isn't helping. I'd like to find an older 24 in .22mag/410 or .22LR/20ga. within driving distance, but $400 is about my limit. Hope you find yours.
Pinestatetrader: If possible post a picture or two of your 24. That will sure help in getting some interest.

I understand where you are coming from Blaze...I can't wait till my Gran-Son(s) get a bit older and go hunting/shooting with me...My oldest G-Son(will be 5yrs in a month) is dieing to go and is always bugging me to go shooting/target practicing when I take my oldest G-Daughter(his sister, she is 11yrs,she has a KSA Crickett 22LR single shot bolt action, got it for her birthday a couple months back) but he needs to get just a bit older but might take him sometime and let him try out his sister's rifle by his birthday....I still have a few more years till his(their brother) gets to go with me......Then while they are both(or I should say all three) are going with me I'll have my youngest G-Daughter(their cousin) wanting to go to,lol....I atleast would like to get my oldest G-Son a Savage-24 22LR/410 cause he loves mine so much...I do think maybe the Savage-42 might be something for him cause of how much smaller it is but I just do not like all the plastic on it. But maybe I can get someone to make me some wood stock(s) for it...I can't wait till he can go with me and his sister...I hope you find what you are looking for...........At one time I thought of selling mine but it usta belong to my Dad so I just can't seem to part with it or anything that I have that belonged to him....AND I do love the dang thing,LoL......I never got to shoot it before when I was younger(or older for that matter) till after it was handed down to me and it is it very good condition...Might not be mint and needs a new trigger guard that I have been trying to replace but don't want another plastic one on it have been trying to find a metal type one for it but no luck so far. Might have to see if maybe my brother can make me one at his work as he is a machinist....The barrels on it are in great condition also as he did not use it very much either....And you are very right about those prices....I say if you have the cash and you find one in good condition then grab it up.....And I hear ya on the FFL transfer fees....I live in PA and if it's a private sale all you need is a bill of sale...Well atleast I think it still is.....Last time I was at the dealer was to pick-up my G-Daughter's Crickett and they did a check on me which I thought they were only supposta do on hand guns here in PA but I just fig'd what ever here is the $5...Was that low ONLY because I bought it from them....The tranfer fees around me range from $20-35 and sometimes $40 depending on where you go......Well I hope you find what you are looking for and have a great time with your G-Son(s)........
