Thanks for the information and quick reply. I've had pretty good luck with the Lee liquid alox also. I think 1.5" at 50yds with iron sights is good for this type of firearm. Thanks again!

Hi everybody! I have been impressed by the depth of knowledge here while browsing. I am finally acquiring my own 24 after lusting after them for quite a while. While I am very likely to keep it in the original as manufactured and simply put it to use now and again, a question does occur to me and I wonder if those who know these lovely guns can answer it for me. My question is can the rifle barrel successfully be re chambered? .22 LR to .22 Magnum or perhaps at the extreme end to the .22 Hornet? I realise the Hornet is centre fire and this may present firing pin and other issues. Would be simpler to simply buy one with another rifle cartridge set up I think but the question remains. Am very happpy to read any opinions!

Kiwi I'm not the all knowing all seeing sage of model 24, but it seems to me that the 24 is a perfect match with chamber adaptors. There's a company called ACE Adaptors somewhere in AK, and they do excellent work. I'm not sure if it was ever made, but if it was, and if I had the money for it my ideal 24 would be a .270 over 20ga with a .22wmr adaptor for the .270, and .243 adaptor for the 20ga. With that rig you could shoot everything from squirrels to elk, not be overloaded for anything, and still have 2 shots for deer. You might ask why not a .270 for the 20ga? Its because with adaptors you're gonna have a different point of impact even with the same cartridge, so you might as well have something lighter so you get a choice of caliber and don't end up exploding a coyote, small deer, etc... with a 125yd .270 shot. Also, while I'm not sure of this I think you'd be able store both the .243 and the .22wmr in the buttstock. With a little artful woodworking it would be easy. The nice thing about 24's and adaptors is that once they're in the rate of fire is the same. Anyhow sorry for rambling on, but give ACE Adaptors a look, they have a variety of lengths for whatever need, and always do good work. Best part, it's actually a person and not a faceless entity that has terrible customer service and is only out to make a profit (I'm looking at you Remington; you ruined Marlin you sons of motherless goats. Your fathers were hamsters and your mothers smelt of elderberries!)

lester, welcome to the forum, it is a great place to get help with you Savage combination shotgun/rifle. You can find a schematic and parts for the 24se at Numrich (www.gunpartscorp.com), possibly on eBay, Jack First, to name a few. Some of the forum members will also sell or trade extra parts that they have and no longer need. Best of luck and have fun.
