I finally ponied up the dough for a Valmet 412. It's on the way to my FLIGS...
Getting two barrel sets to start with. 12ga fixed IM choke over .30-06, and 12ga/12ga with removable chokes (only comes with mod chokes, though).
I am pumped. I've wanted one of these for yeeeeears...
Gonna see how a .30-06 Hammond Game Getter does on the little critters, too...
Seems almost dream-like. Waiting for the other shoe to drop, hah.

Saw a complete set at a gun show last year, must have 3 or 4 barrels all in a fitted case. Very beautiful set. Looked like well out of my price range so I didn't even ask how much. It was the only item the seller had. Might be there again this year which will be this weekend.

I did pay a little more than I wanted to, but.... Easy to rationalize by saying that it will only appreciate in value and will last me the rest of my life, heh.
No case with mine. Two barrels, a quick detach return-to-zero scope mount, and a nice Leupold 1-4x shotgun scope (which will probably end up going on the 24S-C, while the 3-9x muzzleloader scope on the 24V will probably migrate to the Valmet, and the 24V will get a fixed 4x that I have in a drawer).
I've got about the same (a little less) money into it than my three Savage 24s. It seems expensive on the surface, but considering the yawning chasm of "quality" between it and the 24s (and don't get me wrong, I love my 24s, but... Proper regulation adjusters and machining tolerances like a swiss watch, yanno?) and how it has two sets of barrels with it, I think it's very worth it.
They really are amazingly made guns. Not a bit of slop anywhere. Everything is just so crisp and fits together perfectly. It's the kind of fitting you'd expect on an $8000 trap gun for rich people, but not anywhere near that price point.
Sadly though, I have a NICS delay on it, and have to wait until Saturday to pick it up. Happens about 50% of the time whenever I buy a gun, and they never call back with a proceed or deny, I just have to wait 3 days... Dunno what triggers it, either a little misadventure I had back in college or the security clearance I had when I worked for NRL. Frustrating, though, heh. I keep meaning to get a UPIN to speed things along, but every time I buy a gun, I tell myself I finally have enough guns and won't need to worry about it again. Maybe they're just really busy with people buying new rifles this time of year.
It's weird. I buy a big box of AR-15 receivers that I don't really have any use for, and it sails right through. I buy a single shot hunting gun that I intend to use on Friday and Saturday, and get delayed. Makes ya wonder what their delay criteria is, or if it's entirely the subjective judgement of the person at NICS... Scary thought, that.

Thanks! Will do. Was hoping to shoot some tree rats today, but had to spend the whole day working on the darn car.

Very nice, thanks for the pics. Today at the local gun show there were 4 Savage 24's. A 22/410, 22/20, 22m/20 and a 222/20. Only the 222/20 was priced reasonably but I already have a 223/20. But there was a Tikka 12/222 that was in beautiful condition that I drooled over for some time. The asking price was 975 bucks which was way out of my price range. Well maybe next year.

Sorry for the double post, don't know how that happened.
