I have a 24 s-e and the barrel is clearly marked "22 rem mag r f only". A 22 mag does not fit in the barrel. It will chamber a LR. Has anyone heard of issues with mis marked barrels? I would also like to date this rifle, it's serial number is P014xxx. Where can one find this info?

Welcome to this great site. Lot's of information here. Never saw or heard of a 24 marked as yours is. A good clear picture/photo of your 24s-e barrel markings would be appreciated. Does the 22lr chamber properly (proper fit)?

Im thinking the magnum ammo was forgotten about and all that was used was LR ammo, causing buildup of powder and lead causing mag ammo to not chamber, just a thought. give it a mean scrub in the chamber and check for changes.

REMINGTON did not even make 22 magnum ammo until the early 1990's! Even then they made 22 WINCHESTER Magnum, AKA 22WMR
