I have a 24V chambered in .22 / 20ga. The finish was all but gone , and was pitted evenly all over, the fox and birds were still visible. It he furniture was poorly colores stained I plastidipped them grey and clearcoated. Everything seems to function quite well. I m considering letting it go ... can I ask what you think it may be worth? This is a GREAT user , yote gun! I can't seem to post pics but can email if someone could help me out......

Thiose that would buy the gun will fall into 2 categories: 1. those that know about the Savage 24 2. those that see it and want decide they want it. The #2 buyers will never pay anywhere near what the #1 folks will for a model 24
Take off the plstidip, that will IMHO lessen the value since it will look like it is hiding something. You would be better off just removing the furniture and light sand use a quality stain/varnish.

I agree with gman. Sounds like it would make a good barn gun/back door gun/ truck gun. But those uses will not command high, or even good prices. Most Savage 24 owner/buyers, IMHO, want a nice looking gun that they can be proud of and show off to their friends. All that said, there are those that want a good solid working gun and the Savage 24 is that. Keep the price really reasonable and you will find a buyer.

If the metal needs redoing I have had really good results with Rustoleum rust remover. Apply it with a cotton ball, multiple coats until it is black as you want it. Very durable and looks good. Be sure to remove all traces of oil and finger prints with acetone or 91% rubbing alcohol.

To answer your question, in the PacNW, it'd be worth about $200. Elsewhere in the country.....I dunno.

From your description, probably between $200 and $300, depending on finding just the right buyer. Start on the higher end and be willing to negotiate.

Hehehe! I'd ask myself, what do I want to do with it. Show or blow? Is it a shooter or a step-up to the next big thing! I've seen items (and I've brought this topic here), refinish or not.
Does it gladden my heart or does it hurt or can I live with it?
From what I've seen it costs more to bring a 24 back-up to speed than it did to buy it. Then one always carriers the stigma as being a "re-conditioned" item.
