Recently I picked from LGS a 22/410 for $100.00 and some change. The barrel/receiver has no bluing whatsoever, I assumed the previous owner stripped/removed all the bluing for some odd reason down to bare metal. But now Im wondering, did Stevens/Savage ever manufacture a Nickel plated 22/410? How do I tell if its Nickel or "In the White" ? I don't have or know anything about Nickel Plating so any help, is appreciated. The Gun functions/shoots fine.
Thanks CZVZ

Aw! I saw something like this and didn't know if I should go/no go. I really don't know if Savage ever offered this as an option or not. On the other hand due to the corrosive effect that hand sweat has on the OEM finish I'd have to ask if this a game changer? Negating from the as- was Value to the new function.
Do you collect our use/collect?

Im a hunter/gatherer - collector/plinker. When I saw this one I couldn't, not buy it..... even the beat/rusted/pitted ones sell for around $300.00. The guy at the shop said it was Nickel, but I don't think it is, I think it's stripped down " In the White"

czvz,
Savage did offer 2 satin nickel finish guns, but neither was chambered in .410. These guns were called the Survival models. The 24VS was chambered in either .357 magnum or .357 maximum over 20 gauge and had 20 inch barrels. The 24CS was chambered in .22lr over 20 gauge and also had 20 inch barrels. They both came with the standard stock and an accessory pistol grip.
You are probably correct about your gun being "In the White." And at $100 I think you made out with a good deal.

You can test it easily enough....put a drop of vinegar or bluing on a (preferably hidden) spot of the 'white.' If it rusts or blues, it's been stripped.
For $100, it'd be nice if it were stripped. Then it would be a fun project to blue it.
If it's nickel, it'd still be a project....just harder.
