In my observations over the past couple of years, I've found it's getting really hard to find a decent Model 24-anything for less than $300 or $350. If you like the Series S (isn't that the one with barrel break built into the trigger guard?), then $325 doesn't seem bad for an excellent gun -- in fact, maybe a bit cheap. You really can't lose too much if it's in good shape. I vote for "buy." Let us know what you decide.

That seems like a fair price. Maybe even a good price these days. If it shoots good, I'd go for it.

I'd make sure that it locks up air tight and that it doesn't have any light strike issues. I had terrible experiences with a S-E. The problem was light strikes and the cause was a weak lock up. I've heard of others with the S series who have had similar light strike issues cause by the same loose lock up as well. Also fixing it was a nightmare, as putting the S series back together is harder that solving a rubics cube blind folded and drunk. That is also confirmed by other s series owners. I'm Sorry to poo-poo on your find, but my experience on the S series was pretty bad. It Might pay off for you to do a couple searches in the forum regarding light strikes, difficult reassembles, and the S series in general. Good luck and if u get it anywys I hope your experience is the opposite of mine. Best wishes.

Id like to add that I eventually fixed(jerry-rigged) it, and it worked out OK, but it was after considerable pain and suffering and my fix was likely somewhat temporary. Maybe just Another 100 bucks and a bit of patients and you can get an apparently more reliable series off of gunbroker arms list, auction arms, etc. You can probably Even get a nicer looking DL model if u like those?

Thanks for the replies, and RustBeltRedNeck, thanks for the heads up on light strikes, would this be on the shotgun or rifle, or both?
thanks CZVZ

It seems to me the real issue with the S series is in the lock up with the light strikes being a symptom

FWIW, I find my S to be a better-shooting gun than my C or my V. Good trigger and good regulation. Sometimes I kinda think it may be an individual gun thing rather than a specific model thing. But I dunno.

Love my series S, I wouldn't hesitate for a minute. My only real worry would be about breaking the trigger guard and not being able to come up with a replacement. The days of $9 ones from Gunparts is long gone.

CAS - for your information I happened to be looking for replacement/spare 24C parts on Gun Parts early this morning to determine if I should purchase or not purchase a 24C I came across at a local gun show on Saturday and having seen your response to cvzc's post I took a quick look at available 24S parts. Gun Parts did show trigger guards available for the 24SE and 24MSE, and if I am correct these should fit a 24S. So if you are in the market for a spare trigger guard you might want to check this out. The trigger guard is priced at $12.40.
