I recently purchased an early (1951) Model 24 in superb condition. It appears a previous owner did a cleaning that was too aggressive. The coating that is applied to the solder joint between the two barrels was partially removed showing the shiny solder in places. Can someone tell me what that coating is so I can reapply it to hide the soldered joint? Thanks.

Wow....excellent question. It can't be bluing and I can't think of a substance other than paint that would cover it. Since it's basically lead-based, search the internet for covering materials. Otherwise, very, very dark blue paint, applied with a tiny, tiny brush???

sauersohn - Brownells sells a solution called "silver solder black" that is used to blacken or blend and hide hi-temp silver solder joints like Silvaloy 355. The Brownells number is 083-032-004WB and costs about $14.00 per 4 oz. bottle. Brownells suggests using their product 083-032-014 (I could not find this product) for the soft solders such as Hi-Force 44. I have never tried either of these products, but like any of Brownells' products you must follow the instructions for proper surface prep and use of the product to obtain the desired results. Good luck

Thanks for the info. Brownells silver solder black looks like the solution, pun intended. Happy shooting!
