I inherited a Model 24 (no letter designation) in z .22/.410 combo but I can't find the serial number. Can anyone tell me where to locate it? My email is stewarthanson@me.com
Thanks Stew

It likely doesn't have one. Firearms manufactured prior to 1968 weren't required to have one, and Savage was one of the companies that didn't use them, at least on the Model 24. Are there any numbers/letters stamped in an oval either on the receiver or barrel lug? This page will help translate the letter into a year of manufacture.

Can you post a pic, many will know the model and if it should have a SN. (As mentioned the earliest model did not have them, AND also as mentioned not required until 1968.)
Notice the hammer selector in pics below. This style was only on the early models.
Here is my earliest also a 22/410 it is a 1950's IIRC. CW

I have a model 24 with no letters to tell me what year. But it does have a circle with 29L inside the circle, and it is located on the left side near the wooden stock near the pin that goes through the frame and stock. Thanks for any information Ralph

Thanks for any information Ralph According to the chart on Savage24.com that would make it 1960. I'm not sure which pin you're referring to that goes through the frame and stock. A picture might help clarify that.

How do I post a picture?
As a guest, I imagine you'd have to host it on a pic hosting site and link to it using the insert image icon...7th from the right in the line of icons above the reply window.. As a member you can attach an image.

That stamp indicates 1960. You might see a similar stamp on the barrel lug.
That pin doesn't go through the stock. The stock is held to the receiver with a long bolt accessed under the butt plate.
