For those who are interested: I just got back from the Dakota Territory Gun Collectors show in Sioux Falls (500 or so tables), and this is what I saw for asking prices (most of which hadn't sold by midday Sunday); I could be off by a few dollars, because I'm relying on memory, but these prices are in the asking ballpark: Tenite 240 (.410/.410) in well-used shape: $780 (ouch!) Tenite 240 in better condition: $840 (also ouch!) Tenite .22/.410 in ragged condition but good plastic: $480 Stevens Model .22/.410 in really rough condition -- lettering was mostly polished off, roughly, the metal had been spray-painted and the wood appeared to have been plastic-wooded under some sort of really dark stain: Sold for $250. Savage 24 .22/.410 with split barrels (Series S?): Clean gun -- mint metal, hardwood (but not walnut) wood in great shape, $495, didn't sell but probably should have.
There were a couple of others whose details escape me -- I should have been writing it all down. Bottom line is that I saw only the one 24-type gun in the entire show that sold, as noted above, and it was a true beater. There seems to be a buying frenzy over semi-auto and "black rifles" at the expense of the lowly Model 24. Asking prices for the 24s just seem too high for the buying mood of today's public. It will be interesting to see what happens with 24 prices as we move ahead with pushes for gun control, restrictions, registration, etc. I'm planning to hit Tulsa in April and will try to remember to write prices down, in case anyone is interested.

Your report makes me very happy. I paid 475 for my 24V .357/20 in 98% condition last fall. It included a 4x32 Tasco on see thru rings. ;D ;D Pete

I fear we'll say goodbye to such good buys if/when the federal government outlaws face-to-face sales and makes all transactions go through dealers.

I just purchased a 24S-C, .22 mag over 20 gauge for $495 from a gun store. The blueing is good but the stock has a couple of scratches. Nice gun first .22 mag I have seen. Then I found a new gun store with 6-24's- 4 in wood ,2 with silver color metal. All over $490. I am in the "peoples republic of Northern Colorado."

Usually, our local (I'm in the upper left-hand corner of your map) gun show is a modest one ; the show in Portland (across the river from us) is almost always bigger. But WA doesn't (yet) have a requirement that sales between private parties be vetted. I was surprised by the number of tables: at least 3X the usual, as well as maybe 5-6 times the attendees. Talked to the sellers at the largest table, they'd sold the (apparently) only Mdl 24 at the show (24V) for $750 within the first few minutes. Dealer said it had sat in his rack for almost a year at $495. And, unless you've been to a show recently, you won't believe the prices: no reloading powder to be seen, WW 22 LR HP (500 cnt), $45/box; .223" bullets are about 2.5 x regular price, black guns flying off the tables @ 125% of retail, etc., etc., ad nauseum.....

Yeah Mike our last gun show in Ft.Myers FL --Traffic was backed up to the off ramp of I-75 (over 4 miles) 1 1/2 hour wait to get in the front door!!!! Ammo dealer next to us sold out all the popular calibers before noon sat. I sold a S&W 45 in the 1st hour that had been on the table for a year We didn't sell any "black" guns--had 2 ARs and 2 mini 14s but did sell 2 black powder guns that we have had FOREVER--go figure

I was at a local gun show last month (Clark county Ohio) and a guy there had a Stevens 22-410 with tenite stocks and he wanted $450 for it. I thought that was way over priced! I talked to him for awhile and he siad he would come down to $400. I still thought this was a bit pricy for the gun. The over all condition of the gun wasn't to bad, some scuffs and scrapes but not to bad used condition. After looking at the gun a little harder I noticed that the transfer bar didn't seem to come up fully when selected to the 22 barrel, it was only contacting about half of the firing pin. The guy asked me what the HECK am I looking at and I told him, he got really snotty with me and told me that "I didn't need to worry about that, all I needed to know is that it did make contact with the firing pin". I handed the gun back to him and told him thanks but no thanks! I ended up finding a wood stock Stevens 22-410 just 2 days ago at my local gun shop for $275 in pretty good condition, Glad I didn't buy that one from that other guy!
First 22-410 Combo gun that I have ever owned (and love it) and also a brand new member to this forum.

After looking at the gun a little harder I noticed that the transfer bar didn't seem to come up fully when selected to the 22 barrel, it was only contacting about half of the firing pin. FWIW, the selector bar does only cover about half the rifle firing pin when in the "up" position. I checked four of my Tenite guns this morning, plus a couple of walnut ones, and they're all the same -- halfway cover rifle FP. Also FWIW, you'll probably be happier with your less-costly wood gun than with a Tenite one. Tenite was always a bit fragile, and has become even more so after decades of existence. And replacement cost is prohibitive. Further, $450 or even $400 is a kinda high price for a Tenite unless it is mint. I bought one last fall at the Tulsa show for $280 in fairly decent shape; I saw a really fine one at Cabela's a while back for a little over $400. That seems to be the upper limit on ones that actually sell (vs. asking prices, which can be astronomical; speaking of crazy prices, I saw a very ordinary walnut Model 24B at a small show Saturday with a price tag of $725!!! It was probably worth no more than ... well ... what's half of $725? Some of these asking prices are so outlandishly high that there's no sense in even trying to negotiate a deal. Wacky!)
