For anyone who is interested in gunshow sales, I sold two Model 24s this weekend at a small show that had a huge crowd. One was a rather ragged, plain old Savage 24 with a pretty bad .22 bore (worst I've ever seen on a 24, in fact -- looked like an old boys' rifle bore!), decent shotgun bore, well-figured wood but with the typical tight hairline cracks at the scallops, metal that had had flake rust taken off and cold blued on both barrels, and pitting on one side of the receiver. I asked $280 and was admittedly glad to see it go for $260. (Yes, I pointed out the flaws to the buyer, who didn't seem to care -- just wanted a combo gun.) The other was a Model 24 SE in .22 over 20-gauge. It was fairly clean -- usual ugly "hardwood" stock needing refinishing but no cracks or other issues, with signs of a little surface rust having been removed near the muzzle end, fairly clean black receiver. I had $350 on it for two days and finally took $300 in the last half hour of the show. (I personally don't care for the aesthetics of the side-lever guns -- to me, they lack the grace of the earlier models, so I was glad to see it go.) I also had on the table a standard old Stevens Model .22/.410 with a broken selector and missing button, but no takers at $295, so I guess I'll fix it up; it was at one time a Tenite gun so I may take off the replacement wood and go back to plastic. I also had a Model 24 SE (side-lever) in .22 magnum over .410, a really clean gun. The .22 mag being much scarcer than the .22 LR, I had $410 on it and lots of interest but no solid offers. So I'll probably take it down to Tulsa in April to see what happens. (I sold a total of 20-some guns as I try to reduce my accumulation before a government private-sales ban, but the others weren't 24s so I'll spare you the details.)
Sorry for the long post. Ignore at will. ;D
