Hello - new here. I picked up this Savage 24 from my uncle last weekend. Best I can tell it’s a Savage 24 Field .22/410. It’s never been shot and still has the tag hanging on it. How would I know what year this was made? Looks like it’d be a good back yard plinker. thanks, Pete Also curious what it’s worth? I paid enough for it but sure think it’s a neat gun. Attachments:

Go to savage24.com and click on the FAQ page.
There's a link to help you determine the year of manufacture.
The value is subjective. Being unfired, it's likely more valuable than some. Blue Book has them around $600 for 100%, depending on model. They often bring more, or less.

Blue Book has it at $600. Manufactured '64-'71, according to them. Since yours has a serial number it would be post '68.

My Series S was bought new (with several more in stock) in a gun store in 1983, so that gives you some general idea of it's age. IIRC it was $125.00 As a total side note... if you've ever seen the movie The Survivors with Robin Williams, Walter Mathau and Jerry Reed (released in 1983), the gun store scene was filed in the store my 24 (and many other guns) were bought.

Savage 24 series S. D882657 That is not a series S. The device to open a series S is on the right side. This one has the release just in front of the trigger. This is a much newer gun. Still great, but not an S.

Actually, the 24 Series S does have the release in front of the trigger guard. The 24S-* models have the side release. I have a 24S-D. Here's an example of the Series S: www.gunbroker.com/item/828638879. My 24S-D does not have a serial number. The Series S was a later model. It is confusing, but that's Savage for you.

Yes the Series S most definitely has the "trigger guard trigger" for opening.
(as seen in my avatar as well)
