Broken extractor on 24V-A .222/20ga. It appears that the shaft was pressed into a hole in the extractor plate and then brazed in place...I can see bronze or brass filler on the broken end of the shaft. The shaft was drilled to provide a place for the plunger spring...the shaft broke right in the spot where it was made weak by the drilling of the plunger spring hole. The plunger spring, extractor plunger, and plunger are all fine if I could just put the extractor itself back together without damage. I have had no luck finding a replacement part so far. I am thinking about removing some metal from the shaft and TIG welding it back in place but I am not sure how that will turn out. It may be worth a careful try because I don’t think it is any use the way it is. Any ideas?

you can get V extractors from numrich---don't worry if it's the 30-30 or another caliber extractor---it may be easier to modify that one than it is to rebuild what you have. I know 30-30 is a larger case diameter than 222 but it can be filled (try brazing) in and filed back to the size you need. For the price of the extractor it's worth exploring

Thank you
I ordered the one for the series C...I was on that site and saw that they did not have the one for my 24V-A but maybe I can make the one for the series C work. I see that it has a roll pin sticking out of the face of the plate that mine does not have, maybe I can just grind that off.
I TIG welded the one I have back together and that went well and it fit back into the barrel assembly beautifully but then when I tried to reassemble the plunger, plunger spring, and set screw I ran into trouble. The welding distorted the holes and the plunger screw would not go back in. (Likely why they low temp brazed it in the first place) I managed to run a #4-40 tap into the set screw hole only to find that the screw still would not go in. I'm guessing that the set screw is a #5-40 thread (A tap I don't have) and in the process of doing all this I lost the plunger spring. My wife and I looked for that tiny spring for an hour and it's a major heart breaker that we didn't find it.

If you have an Ace hardware store near you it's likely that you could find a spring there.
