I bought this by mail from the Stoeger catalogue in the spring of 1958 when I was 15 yrs. old. According to an old catalogue, the cost was $35. Not content with the original stock, I shaved off the pistol grip and slimmed down the forearm (you purists can blame teenage enthusiasm). I refinished it with Herter's "London Oil Finish" (I still have the original can) which I believe may be a mixture of boiled linseed oil and alcohol. I'm pleased to report the walnut stock still looks as good as it did 64 years ago. In the Illinois farmlands surrounding our little town, I hunted quail, rabbits, pheasant and the occasional duck (I didn't learn until much later in life that the .410 was too small for duck). My senior year of high school, we moved to North Idaho, where I learned about big-game hunting, and the Mdl 24 was eased into only occasional use. But it's my first firearm of many and it's not for sale at any price.

Its okay, clicking the image expands it nicely. Beautiful old gun - you've done a good job of keeping it up.
Our 'firsts' always have a lot of nostalgia and fond memories, I'm glad to see it is still in your possession.
