I recently acquired a Savage Model 24B-DL, .22 WMR over 20 gauge. I have a line on a bare barrel chambered in .22 LR and 410 gauge. Is that just a straight up barrel swap, or do I need to get a gunsmith involved? Thanks for your time.

Search the archives for Big Kelly’s post on barrel interchangeability. He’s a wealth of knowledge, as well as Cas and others on here. Lot of stuff to consider like firing pin alignment and extractor type. I added a .22mag/20ga 24” barrel to my camper receiver that had a .22lr/20ga 20” factory barrel. I had to file away some of the locking lug to get the correct fit up as well as add an extractor lever via cutting a slot into the front barrel lug and drilling an extra hole for the extractor lever pin. My machinist friend and I did all of this in an afternoon but I would suggest getting a qualified gunsmith to do such work. Best of luck. Lowman
