Hi everyone, I recently got a Savage .22/.410 model 24 (4E) patten # 2259397 from my dad.
First I am looking for parts: I am wonder if you can help a- .22 firing pin b- I find the hammer spring very hard to pull. Is there a modified spring available ? or any suggestions.
Second, I would like to know more about the history of this rifle. The markings I found on the barrel are : Savage Arms Corporation, ChicopeeFall, Mass, USA 4A H+"eye logo"+square+E
then inside the action there is a 4 in an octagone square near by it has a E (reverse+square+eyelogo+H)
there is no serial # I know it a long detailed message but I would appreciate any expert opinion. thanks Sk

Welcome to the group,
I would suggest checking the FAQ on this sites main page, you will find a lot of your answers there to data/age and suggestions for part replacements. Also there is no know "modified" hammer spring that I am aware of, but would suggest a good cleaning and ensure that nothing is binding. I have seen where pieces of a broken selector caused a similar issue.
Regards, -BS-

not sure of a right or wrong way and someone on here may be able to describe a better procedure - i follow the hammer pin with a brass drift then manipulate the rod back out slowly while maintaining control of both the spring and hammer while slowly working things out of position, going back together gets a little tricky and wishing that you had three hands. suggest that you have a gunsmith have a look see if not comfortable with the process. also don't give the hammer pin a tap from one side and if it doesn't move try from the the other side of the receiver, don't force things and wear eye protection - there is a possibility for things to go flying...

As a fellow member had directed me, Numrich's has an awesome stock of parts and all parts manuals for different 24 models. Shipping to Canada cost a king's ransom, but if you need it, they likely have it!
